Riječek - the Croatian version of the Wordle game
The goal of the game Riječek, as well as Wordle, is to guess a five-letter word in six tries. If you guess the right letter in the right place, the tile turns green. If the right letter is in the wrong place, you get yellow. Gray means that the letter is not in the word at all.

Every day there is a new task and a new word of 5 letters, which must be guessed in a maximum of 6 attempts. In the dictionary available for the game, there are 18.757 Croatian five-letter words that are considered "legal" to type. The letters j, lj and nj are counted as two characters. With the original Wordle, this version shares both the interface and the rules of the game, and the only difference is the inability to type letters with your own keyboard. In other words, if you're playing on a desktop, you'll have to click on the virtual on-screen keyboard.

What exactly is Riječek/Wordle and how is it played?

Riječek is an online, fun, simple word game. It's a crossword puzzle that you can only play once a day, so like your favorite soap opera, you're drawn to devote time to it every day. The word of the day appears every 24 hours and then its end user appears. In order to make it as easy as possible to guess which word is ultimately being searched for, you are allowed to enter a total of 6 words from which you can extract hints about the letters and their positions. Those who are more skilled in similar games can guess the given word in two moves or in just one move. Once you have successfully or unsuccessfully solved the daily puzzle, it is very easy to share your results on social networks. The saying "If it's not on social media, it didn't happen" is already well known, so no one wants to miss sharing their good result.

Why are games like Riječek/Wordle good for cognitive health?

According to Dr. Douglas Scharre, a neurologist and director of the Center for Cognitive and Memory Disorders at Wexner University Medical Center, doing a daily crossword puzzle or playing a word game is great for brain health. He points out that it's important to challenge yourself to new problem-solving exercises and that games and puzzles, especially those involving novelty, can stimulate and challenge key parts of the brain, including thinking, language, logic, visual perception, attention and flexibility. It's also a great way to prevent a decline in cognitive health as you age, as most scientists believe that the more you exercise your brain, the healthier it will be. Games help anyone with cognitive problems, whether it's head trauma, stroke, sleep apnea, or other conditions that affect the ability to think.
